How to spot a Hoax...

I know I'm not alone when I say I get a ton of emails warning me of potential dangers. Ranging from being able to call a specific number to alert the police if I'm in trouble, people selling perfume to try and knock me out and rob me, to putting my cell phone number on the do not call list because the cell phone companies are selling our numbers to telemarketers. And while, I do appreciate a genuine warning if there is potential danger, most of these emails are a hoax. Bill Gates will never send you money for forwarding emails (how will he even keep track), and Penny Brown is not missing! There is this wonderful website, www.snopes.com, that has information on ALL of the emails that I have ever gotten. And I must say, 98% of them are just not true. What's even more outrageous to me is that I try to tell other people about this site, so that they too can educate themselves on these emails, they get upset. I'm not saying that you shouldn't be concerned if you receive an email about a child missing, or a possible robbery attempt, but I'm saying, don't cause yourself unnecessary anguish. Take a minute, see if it's true, and then send it on. Otherwise, I don't want to read about something that is just going to take up space in my brain for no reason at all. So, do me and all of your friends a favor, the next time you get an email, search on snopes, and find out if its worth your forward. Please and Thank You!
